keeping your blog updated is overrated

i dont think im very good at keeping a blog... not much going on. on wednesday night: saw torremolinos 73, not very good. on thursday night: went for morrocan food. on friday: took the day off to go to the consulate and sort out some administrative stuff, walked around chelsea, being off on a weekday feels nice you see the city very differently... also went to turn turnmills where timo mass was playing. on saturday: saw rois et reine. on sunday: summer exhibition 2005 at the royal academy of arts.

i liked rois et reine, i thought it "conveyed the complexity of human emotions very well". sounds trite I know, but it's true. it focuses on the main character's relationship, she is a parisian woman in her 30s, with the "four men of her life", her father - who is dying of cancer, her ex-long term boyfriend who's unwillingly interned in a psychiatric ward and the late father of her son and her son (although these two are not given as much importance in the film). she is also about to get married but it doesn't seem to be about love.
i had reservations about it as i thought it might be quite pretentious and narcissistic but that is not the case. it's a long and complex film, quite deep, as you can imagine, but overall it is not as 'heavy' as it sounds, it's both tragic and comic (i thought it was very very funny at times, well observed). the title refers to the mythological references in the film but it remains very a modern/contemporary.
i enjoyed it, and all the actors are brilliant. i particularly liked the epilogue (the ex boyfriend take the kid for whom he acted as a father to some museum whilst discussing the events that unfolded). you'll definitely find something for you in this film. now i hope you wanted to know about rois et reines and not torremolinos...

don't know when rois et reine will be released in the US... it was shown in the NY film festival but i've missed it.

i would imagine LA and nyc are still the best places over in the US to get to see foreign films. it's hard enough in london sometimes...
